About Us
I am a West African drummer / djembe player based in London since 2015. I am a teacher in primary and secondary schools, and hold weekly classes for adults in south west London. I also perform for private events and repair and sale djembes!
Before arriving in the UK, I spent many years learning and “collecting” traditional rhythms from Senegal, Mali, and Guinea. In Senegal, he was a soloist in many Ballets, notably the Batogai ballet at the Blaise Senghor Cultural Centre in Dakar. Dia has had the opportunity to play the djembé with maestros, Modoun Khoulé (Mali), Idy Kanté (Mali), and in 2009 with the great international maestro, Mamady Keita (Guinea), during a professional workshop organised by the Ministry of Culture.
I now share my time between Dakar (Senegal) and London, teaching drums in regular classes and workshops, and performing in live shows
